…With God
Matthew 19:26, “with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
In our January series, Consistent Time With God, we have been breaking down each component of a vibrant prayer life and getting ourselves in position to really hear God’s voice and tap into the “all things are possible” place.
This week we talked about “WITH”. What does it mean to be WITH someone? What are the signs that someone is WITH you?
Communication is one of the main signs of a good relationship. I think we would all agree that the first step to good communication is listening. God is always speaking. But are we always listening?
Being WITH someone is a two-way street. We pour our heart out to them, then we listen to them as they pour their heart out to us. It’s the same with God. If we slow ourselves down a little bit and listen, He will speak. We can’t do any listening if we are doing all the speaking.
Listening brings us peace and safety (proverbs 1:33)-we will be confident and unafraid. Our happiness has nothing to do with getting our way. It has to do with knowing that God is with us and He will work it out as we follow His lead.
The way we listen to each other is a direct reflection of how we listen to God. If we have a hard time listening to the thoughts of people who love us, how can we be sure we are listening to God who loves us?
Many times our listening is hindered by the way we feel about things, or the way we feel toward the person bringing the information to us.
To improve our listening, we have to make up our mind to get over the way we feel and pull the truth out of what we are hearing. This will put us in position to hear all that God is saying to us. We know that James 1:19 says, “let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”
Start today. Say: I’m a ready listener.
I am challenged to invite the church to another level of listening. The Holy Spirit wants us to draw closer to Him and to hear His voice like never before.
